Robert De Niro's plans to open a new luxury hotel in London's Covent Garden district have been approved.
Robert De Niro's The Wellington Hotel to Open in 2019
Construction on The Wellington Hotel, as it will be called, will start next year and will take 2 years to complete. The hotel is modelled on a similar model as De Niro's other hotel venture, The Greenwich Hotel, in New York.
The Wellington Hotel will feature 83 rooms, a spa, two restaurants and a private membership club. It will be constructed from multiple existing Victorian buildings, that are to be joined together. If The Greenwich Hotel is anything to go by, rates at the hotel will be on the higher end of the scale. Rooms at The Greenwich Hotel start from $600 for standard rooms. Suites and larger rooms cost up to several thousands dollars per night.
Robert De Niro is also an investor in the Nobu restaurant and hotel group. What sets The Wellington Hotel and The Greenwich Hotel apart from that venture, is that they are actively marketed with his name attached.
When it opens, The Wellington Hotel will join the competitive ranks of London's high-end boutique hotels. Time will tell whether The Wellington Hotel will be a success. De Niro's latest hotel venture, the Nobu Hotel Manila, was voted one of the ‘worst' new luxury hotel openings last year.
